Senzonshō is a percussion instrument, which creates the sound by playing on bells with a stick or drumstick. Bells have been very popular as musical instruments in Japan since ancient times.
The bells used by Chiyo Hagiwara are "Kyūjō Orin", manufactured by the Yamaguchi Kyūjō Co., Ltd.; Chiyo named them Senzonshō and established her unique performance style, as a bridge between past and present, tradition and contemporary interpretation of old Japanese stories and legends, and by adding her personal feelings, the magical music composed by artist Chiyo Hagiwara was born.

Hagiwara Chiyo is a pianist who has gained attention as Japan's foremost authority on the works of the prematurely deceased genius composer Carl Filtsch and his elder brother Joseph Filtsch.
Since 2020, she has established "Senzonshō," a unique performance style using Kujo orin (singing bowls). She creates free-form contemporary music by combining the traditional Japanese "orin," which has long been cherished in Japan, with various instruments.
In March 2021, she released her first original CD, Senzonshō / Suite Amano-Iwato. Since then, she has performed at a wide range of venues including shrines, temples, churches, halls, and various events.
In April 2023, she enrolled in the graduate school of Kyoto University of the Arts to conduct comprehensive research and investigation into the "orin" used in Senzonshō.
In March 2024, she performed at the dedication ceremony for the completed restoration of the Taiguruma at Kagoshima Jingū Shrine and appeared at a charity concert for the Noto Peninsula earthquake in Kimotsuki District, Kagoshima Prefecture. In September of the same year, she held a concert titled "The World of Bongu (Buddhist Musical Instruments)" in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. In November, she was invited by Professor Rodica Frenţiu of the Japanese Language Department at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj, Romania, to perform Senzonshō at Japan Day, marking her first overseas concert. She was also invited as a special guest to the International Short Film Festival in Târgu Mureș, and to concerts in Sfântu Gheorghe and Sovata.
In May 2025, she was appointed as a goodwill ambassador for Via Transilvănica and performed Senzonshō at the signing ceremony. In the same month, she performed Senzonshō at the opening ceremony of Professor Rodica Frenţiu's calligraphy exhibition in Bucharest, Romania. The performance was broadcast on Romanian National Television.
She studied composition under Csíky Boldizsár and Kobayashi Hitoshi.
